Avstand
[Distance]
Exhibition and a performance
In collaboration with Sara Guldmyr
2026

“Avstand" is an exhibition by Sara Guldmyr consisting of six works exbihited in three rooms. Five of these artworks double as musical instruments. In collaboration with Sara, I made a concert/performance where I awake sound in the sculptures and installations exploring distance and amplifing emotions explored in artworks.

Sara Guldmyr (b. 1990, Sweden) works with sculpture, installation and video art. She transforms everyday materials from being anonymous to containing emotions. This through unexpected material choices and exploration of scale. For example, enlarging and abstracting the shape of a jaw in the work En god tid, where the teeth are also large, hollow and can make sounds like an instrument. Her works are often about relationships, about intimacy and distance. Both interpersonal relationships and a human relationship to the present. Sara's interest in using time-consuming analogue techniques comes from an ambivalence towards today's digital pace.

Premiered February 15th 2026 at Heimdal Kunstforening, Heimdal, Norway.

“I reflect on the distances in my own life, both physically and emotionally, but ultimately feel comforted by the reminder that loneliness and distance are a shared experience. The concert that allowed me to hear the works fed my curiosity and amplified the themes explored by each work, but attending it wasn’t necessary to understand the overarching meanings of the exhibit. Ultimately, Avstand is a poignant reflection on the impact distance can have on our lives.”  - Jesslyn Low, Artscene Trondheim
